DC Studios boss James Gunn has released a statement regarding rumors that Daniel Craig will play Lex Luthor in the Superman: Legacy movie. The casting topic for the movie Superman: Legacy continues to be a hot topic of conversation among fans. Also, before we finally know who will be playing the character of Clark Kent aka Superman in the new movie, namely David Corenswet. Then the fans themselves conducted a fan-casting on who deserved to play Lex Luthor.
Out of the various names that have been widely discussed by fans, there is one interesting name, namely Daniel Craig. According to a report by Giant Freaking Robot, it was previously claimed that a reliable source reported that DC Studios had offered Daniel Craig to play the character of Lex Luthor. However, via his Threads account, James Gunn released a statement regarding the news of Daniel Craig becoming Lex Luthor.
On his rise, James Gunn stated that the rumors were not true. Last April, The Hollywood Reporter reported that several names on the DC Studios roster were being considered to play the character of Lex Luthor. One example is X-Men: First Class star Nicholas Hoult. THR even reported that Hoult’s name was at the top of the list as a candidate to play Lex Luthor.
Then this past June, THR again reported that in addition to Nicholas Hoult, DC Studios had several other names to play the character. For example, Alexander Skarsgard and also Bill Skarsgard. What’s also interesting is that many fans expressed their choice of Breaking Bad star Bryan Cranston for the role of Lex Luthor, which he later denied. Cranston considered it “extremely vague casting”.
James Gunn himself previously said that the version of Superman that would appear in the DCU would be “real and intelligent.” Gunn also emphasized that he never said that Lex Luthor would appear in the Superman: Legacy movie. Even so, the fans themselves never stop talking about who deserves to play that character. What’s interesting though is that despite the news of Gunn banning Daniel Craig back in 2010, Craig never explained that he dreamed of playing Superman.
