Three years ago, Netflix caused a sensation by releasing a movie called The Old Guard. This action movie was adapted from the graphic novel of the same name and tells the story of a group of immortal mercenaries.
This mercenary army led by Andy (Charlize Theron) has existed for centuries and operates in secret. Until one day, on a secret mission, they were caught by someone who wanted to get the secret of their immortality.
After their secret is exposed, they go to great lengths to keep the secret they have. And at the same time, on the way to find the culprit who set them up, Andy found a new immortal named Nile (Kiki Layne) who was later invited to join his group.
the old guard then it quickly became a hit movie on Netflix and received a positive response from critics or moviegoers in general. Due to this success, in 2021 Netflix officially confirmed that it would make a sequel.
Although the plot of the story remains a secret. the old guard 2 it will likely reveal more about Andy’s fate and destiny. In the first movie, Andy realizes that he has lost his immortality when his body fails to heal the injuries he received after an incident that nearly took his life.
Andy, who ultimately survives, his fate becomes much more uncertain as he is now the most vulnerable member and could die if the group is exposed to great danger.
On top of that, Andy also knows that one of his members named Booker betrayed him and because of his betrayal he was exiled from Andy’s group. And in a post-credits scene, Booker is approached by a woman named Quynh, another immortal who spent most of her life trapped in a coffin under the sea.
It is revealed in flashbacks in the past that Andy and Quynh are comrades-in-arms who work hand in hand on adventures. It’s possible that the sequel will also further explore Andy and Quynh’s relationship.
Part of the cast of the old guard confirmed his return, beginning with Charlize Theron as Andy, the leader of the group. Kiki Layne as Nile, a former United States soldier who becomes the newest member. Also returning are Marwan Kenzari and Luca Marinelli as Joe and Nicky.
Matthias Schoenaerts as exiled Booker member Veronica Ngo, who will play a larger role as Quynh. And there’s Chiwetel Ejiofor as Copley, who is a member and is the only non-permanent of the group.
Other than that, there’s still Uma Thurman and Henry Golding, whose roles are still being kept under wraps. For its part, the direction will be entrusted to Victoria Mahoney replacing Gina Prince-Bythewood.
Most of the filming took place in Rome, Italy, with additional shooting in England and was completed in September 2022. Netflix has yet to announce when it will air. The old guard 2.
