Believer presents two twin demons

The Exorcist: Believer is a direct sequel to The Exorcist (1973) and will be directed by David Gordon Green, who previously had success with his Halloween Trilogy.

Not until an hour ago the sequel to The Exorcistthat is The Exorcist: Believer is here in its latest trailer directed by David Gordon Green, best known for his recently completed Halloween trilogy.

Following the story directly from the classic film released in 1973, the sequel will take the same approach as Halloween, that is, omitting all the sequels that have been made so far. Hearing this, it’s definitely a tall order for the filmmakers that this movie doesn’t deviate from the original.

original movie, The Exorcist, directed by William Friedkin, was written by William Peter Blatty based on his 1971 novel of the same name. The Exorcist terrified audiences when he hit the big screens in 1973, and he still terrifies many who have seen him today.

This film tells the story of a young woman who is possessed by a demon and her mother tries to save her through an exorcism performed by a couple of Catholic priests. The Exorcist is hailed as one of the greatest horror movies of all time, and one of the few horror movies to earn an Academy Award nomination upon its release.

The new sequel will be directed by David Gordon Green (Halloween, Halloween Kills and Halloween Ends), from a script he wrote with Peter Sattler and a story he wrote with Scott Teems and Danny McBride.

The Exorcist: Believer will focus on the father of the possessed child. Desperate for help, she went to find someone who had had a similar experience, the mother of the possessed boy in the 1973 film, Chris MacNeil.

Starring Leslie Odom Jr. (One Night in Miami, Murder on the Orient Express), Ann Dowd (The Leftovers, Hereditary), Lidya Jewett (Good Girls), Olivia Marcum, Raphael Sbarge (Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story, Once Upon a Time), Jennifer Nettles (Harriet), and Okwui Okpokwasili (Remote).

The sequel will also bring back Ellen Burstyn as Chris MacNeil.

When it first became known that a project based on The Exorcist was in the works, his fans disapproved of the news. Many believed that it would be a reboot of the 70s classic.

Otherwise, The Exorcist would get a direct sequel, a very popular strategy today. While this has been received more positively by horror fans, producer and Blumhouse Productions CEO Jason Blum is still well aware of the risks involved in tackling such an iconic franchise. And he spent so much time doing it.

“The most risky movie I’ve ever done, this movie hasn’t been released yet, The Exorcist. Just because they’re so expensive,” Blum said earlier this year.

“Typically, the bar for success in anything we do because it’s cheap is very low. For The Exorcist class, that’s high. It’s not a high risk for Blumhouse. Obviously they pay us, but it is a high risk for our partners.
So when you ask me what’s the riskiest thing we’ve ever done, I think of us or our financial partners. In the case of ‘The Exorcist,’ it would be the biggest, as it’s a high risk for Universal.”

The Exorcist: Believer is scheduled to be released by Universal Pictures on October 13, 2023 on big screens. Stay tuned for the latest news on this movie only on Cineverse.
