Recently, many big studios have been competing to make anime movies or series adaptations. Although history records that most live-action anime or manga adaptations end in flop, that doesn’t discourage studios or production houses from making them. Soon, Netflix will release the live-action One Piece series which will air on August 31, 2023. As the title suggests, this series is adapted from the manga and anime with the same title created by Eiichiro Oda. Later the series will have eight episodes for its first season, and will tell the life of Monkey D. Luffy who recruited members of the Straw Hat Pirates.
This project is a collaboration between Netflix and Tomorrow Studios, who previously worked together on the Cowboy Bebop series. Inaki Godoy will play the character of Luffy, while Emily Rudd, Mackenyu, Taz Skylar, and Jacob Remero will play Nami, Usopp, Sanji, and Zoro respectively.
